Lipan was prepared to be sunk as a target ship and on January 22 , 1990 was sent to her watery grave, I believe off Puerto Rico, where she will act as a reef and help replenish the coral and other sealife attracted to her.  I believe Lipan is at the "Rosey Roads" area which is just offshore from Chief's Beach on the South East side of the Island.  Its a sad ending for the ship with the motto "Pauca Sed Fortissima"....which, in Latin, means "Small But Mighty" but all things must come to an end .  I guess its better than being sold for scrap and cut up into razor blades, this way Lipan continues to serve her country.
