Fire Drill at Johnston Island in the Pacific in June of 1952.  Look at that stream with seven sailors leaning into it.
Dry Docked at Pearl harbor in

January 1953.  Note the wooden

trestle type staging with planks used

during that era.  Lipan sure does look

small down in the dry dock but she

still looks good.

At the left is Nils Pearson checking an injector rack on a cylinder head.  It was December 21, 1952.  Just four days before Christmas.  Nils wrote on the back of the photo that the Cigar helped quiet his nerves. The raucous clatter when all four main engines were running was immeasurable.
Another shot of Lipan in dry dock in January of 53. In this photo the gun is removed from the pedestal mount. Nils says the crew was quartered on a Barracks barge and he was assigned as one of the Ship's Drivers. He said he drove an International School-Type Bus to haul the crew to the chow hall and had a jeep for Tripler Hospital, geedunk, movie and errand runs
On the fantail moored at DE docks with mascot kitten. "The 1936 Chevy in the background belonged to a shipmate named Boror, we drove up to Nuuanu Pali in that car one time. The chain link fence is Hickam AFB fence," wrote Nils.
Looks like Nils in the middle.  Out with his

shipmates for a day of Pepsi and fun in Hawaii.
