The big old Target sleds. Made of heavy timbers with a steel frame supporting a canvas target. We towed it almost a mile a stern of us from the wing drums on the towing machine on a 1" (hmmm, I think?) cable. |

WILLIAMS TOW TARGET Length...27 feet, 9 inches. Beam...14 feet. Weight...4,000 pounds. This lightweight aluminum target sled was introduced in the late 1960's, replacing the much larger heavier creosote soaked timber target sled of the earlier days. |

Checkout this naval gun photo. I think its a 5 inch but? In the stop action you can see the shell which is out forward of the blast and the blast effects starting to mushroom. Not a tug photo but a great photo. |
