In this video the closest Aircraft Carrier is close aboard off our starboard side while the Soviet Intelligence gathering Trawler, Gidrofon is continuing the chase on Lipan's port side. Destroyers from the Carrier Battle Group approach to assist if Gidrofon slips past Lipan. Gidrofon was not fast but with proper positioning, a good head start, and a lot of luck she would get very close to the Carrier Battle Groups and attempt to make them alter course. The Aircraft Carriers were conducting Flight Ops and needed to maintain a steady course into the prevailing wind. They would not stop for Gidrofon and it was Lipan's job to force the Soviet to cease and desist.
